Crime-busting tips available at the shops

SHOPPERS in Worcester can learn how to protect themselves and their homes from crime when a one-stop shop returns next week.

West Mercia Police’s love your home shop will be open in the city’s Crown-Gate shopping centre, opposite Mothercare, from Tuesday, February 14, to Saturday, February 18, between 10am and 4pm.

People can get crime prevention advice from officers, pick up crime-fighting freebies and learn about services such as property marking and the Immobilise website, where you can register valuable items for free.

They can also arrange a visit from the local fire service to do a safety check on their home, as well as getting on-the-spot advice from local health workers.

Inspector Janet Heritage, who leads local policing in Worcester, said the force hoped to repeat the success of last year’s similar event which attracted thousands of visitors.

“It is a fabulous opportunity for people to come along and learn how to protect their property with all of the information they need under one roof.

“This can include marking their possessions and tips on how to keep valuables as secure as possible both inside and outside their homes. This can be anything from a push-bike to a games console or jewellery.”

Staff from the fire brigade, Neighbourhood Watch, the South Worcestershire Community Safety Partnership, Safer Worcester, the Safer Roads Partnership and other agencies will also be available in the shop.
